Don't hire just anyone.

Whoever hires you an employee who answers your phone and talks to your callers. Tell it where work falls through. It designs the employee, hands you the brief, and puts them on their own number to audition before you pay. Nothing goes live until you've read and approved the brief.
Hire Whoever.

A point of view from crush · 4 min

Most small businesses don't need more software. They need someone to pick up.

The phone rings while you're up a ladder, behind the counter, or halfway through a job. You see it, and you have to choose between the work in front of you and the work calling in. That shouldn't be a choice.

We could have built another app with another dashboard and another login. Instead we built Whoever as an employment agency. You don't configure anything. You say the problem, meet the hire, and call them.

The employee works on its own phone number, with the role and the facts you approved. When a caller asks something it doesn't know, the question lands with you. Text back the answer, and it knows it for good.

The phone is covered. You stay on the work.

No dashboard. No card. No surprises.

Software asks you to buy first and hope. Whoever turns it around: you call the employee first, throw the awkward questions at them, and only pay once you decide the job is theirs.

What a brief looks like.

Every employee starts as a brief: the business, the work that keeps falling through, the job, and the lines they never cross. Whoever asks the questions, and you approve the answer.

Here's a sample from the employment desk, for a fictional exterior company:

morgan/ ├─ role: storm-call coordinator ├─ for: Northline Exteriors (sample) ├─ the business/ │  └─ a Calgary exterior company ├─ the dropped work/ │  └─ storm calls while the crew is on site ├─ the job/ │  ├─ collects roof damage details │  └─ follows up by text ├─ hard lines/ │  ├─ never quotes a price │  └─ nothing goes out without owner review ├─ phone: their own number └─ what you teach by text/

Examples, not a menu.

Whoever has already built employees for very different jobs. Murphy picks up for the trades. Goldie runs the guest desk. Wally works the storage counter. Probbie runs law-firm intake. Foley keeps the job book in the back office, working with the owner and never the customer.

None of them is a fixed product you pick off a shelf. Tell Whoever what your business needs, and the right employee gets designed around the job.

One call, start to finish.

From the public sample desk of a made-up moving company. Pick one, or let it play.

Answers. The employee picks up on its own number and works from the role and the facts you approved. When a caller asks something it doesn't know, the question comes to you.

Follows up. By text, when the job calls for it.

Collects. The useful details a job needs, with no invented commitments. Booking requests stay yours to confirm.

Reports. When the call ends, the work doesn't disappear. You get a clean summary and a call card: who called, what they needed, what the employee did, and what comes next. The request, the boundaries and the next action stay together.

The caller gets only what belongs outside. Their acknowledgement stays separate from the owner's notes, and the boss gets the whole picture.

Who it's for.

Main Street. Trades, shops, guest desks, storage counters, law offices: businesses where the phone matters and the owner is busy doing the actual work. If your best hour of the day is the one where you can't get to the phone, this was built for you.

It won't run your business, and it isn't trying to. Four things, one job: keep the front door covered without making promises for you.

Before and after.

Without it, a call you couldn't take is a voicemail you'll get to later, maybe. With it, there's someone on staff to pick up, and the call lands in your hand as a summary and a call card.

No app. No dashboard. No software to operate.

You're the boss. Train them like one.

Why it's different.

01 / 04

Audition before you pay

You call the employee first, put them through the awkward questions, and correct what's missing. No card to audition. Payment only appears when you decide the job is theirs.

02 / 04

You approve the brief

No employee goes live until you read and approve the brief: the role, the facts, and the lines they never cross. You keep the final say.

03 / 04

Train them by text

Text your employee like you'd text staff. They read the lesson back before using it, and UNDO takes it back. What you teach stays put.

04 / 04

The work doesn't disappear

A finished call becomes something the shop can use: who called, what they needed, what the employee did, and what comes next.

How hiring works.

Main Street businesses don't lose work because they're missing software. They lose it in the moments nobody can get to the phone, and in the follow-ups that never quite happen.

Whoever is our answer to that: an employee you audition, teach and keep, built by a studio that makes its own products and lives with them every day. Anyone can make a voice on a phone line. Making one you'd trust with your customers is the part we care about.

Questions we get asked.

No. There's no app, no dashboard and no software to operate. You call or text your employee on their own number, just like anyone else on staff.

No. You audition the employee first, with no card. It's CA$149 a month only if you decide to keep them, and you can cancel anytime.

It lands with you as a question. Text back the answer, and the employee knows it from then on.

No. It works from the role and facts you approved and collects useful details with no invented commitments. Booking requests stay yours to confirm.

No. Murphy picks up for the trades, Goldie runs a guest desk, Wally works a storage counter and Probbie runs law-firm intake. They're examples, not a menu: every employee is designed around the job.

The desk is open

Tell Whoever who your business is missing.

Call the employment desk and talk normally. It's live. Your employee brief lands by text when the conversation ends, and nothing gets built until you approve it.
